The 10-Minute Nervous System Reset I Do On Repeat Every Week — It Feels Like a 2-Week Vacation for My Nervous System
Sunday nights look a little different in my house. While most people are dreading the week ahead or rushing to get everything together, I'm doing the one non-negotiable reset that makes me feel like I just had a mini vacation. My nervous system is calmer, my sleep is deeper, my energy on Monday Morning feels like I actually had a real weekend.
It takes 10 minutes and I love to do it before my bath before bed. And honestly when I first heard about it I thought it sounded a little out there. But all you need is Epsom salt and your bathtub, shower floor, or a tray.
Have you ever tried salt stomping?
Salt stomping is exactly what it sounds like. You pour 1-2 cups of Epsom salt directly onto your dry shower floor, tub floor, or into a tray, enough to fully cover the soles of your feet, and you step on it barefoot for 10 minutes before your bath. No water yet, just you and the salt. When you are done you fill your tub and let the salt dissolve right into your bathwater.
Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. Magnesium absorbs through your skin and your feet have some of the largest pores on your body, making them the perfect delivery point for this mineral that most of us are depleted in without even knowing it. And that depletion shows up in ways we just accept as normal. Poor sleep, muscle tension, anxiety, brain fog, that wired but exhausted feeling that never fully goes away.
Here is what I notice every single time I do it:
- My cortisol feels lower and I am not going to bed already bracing for the week
- Muscle tension I did not even know I was holding just releases
- My mind gets quieter
- My sleep that night is deeper and more restorative
My Sunday Night Reset 🌙
This is where it gets really good.
Once the sun goes down I turn down all the lights in the house to just soft lighting as much as possible. Then I prep for my full nervous system rest. I get the tub ready, bring in my favorite candle and my red light, and pour my Epsom salt directly onto the dry tub floor. No water yet.
For the next 10 minutes while I slowly stomp here is some things I like to do depending on what I am needing that week:
- Listen to frequency music and focus on deep belly breathing
- Dry brush my body to support lymphatic drainage and circulation; your skin is already prepped and helps absorb all the magnesium from the Epsom salt bath better
- Do a slow lymphatic face massage with our Rejuvenate Facial Oil, a lightweight jojoba and sweet almond oil that balances, clears, and gives your skin a natural glow. It doubles as an oil cleanse so your face is getting its full nightly treatment while your feet soak up magnesium
- Read or just be still and relax
Ten minutes goes by fast when you are actually taking care of yourself.
When my 10 minutes is up I fill the tub and let the Epsom salt dissolve right into my bath. With only my candles and red light still going I let myself soak for at least 30 minutes.
After my bath while my skin is still warm I apply our Calm Vibes Magnesium + Arnica Body Butter to the soles of my feet, calves, and underarms. Calm Vibes is our number one best seller for sleep support and applying it while your skin is still warm from the bath means your body absorbs it at its most receptive moment, soaking up all the minerals your body has been asking for.
Then once I am in bed I lay down and put my feet up on the wall for a few minutes. This simple position supports lymphatic drainage, helps your body fully shift into rest mode, and honestly just feels incredible after a warm bath. Try it once and you will never skip it again. By the time my head hits the pillow my nervous system has received every signal it needs to fully power down, so I cannot just fall asleep but stay asleep through the night without the lovely 2 am wake ups.
Other Times I Reach For a Salt Stomp
Once a week on Sunday nights is my baseline but there are certain moments I add an extra one:
When I feel myself getting sick. At the first sign, scratchy throat, heavy head, foggy fatigue, I increase my stomps. Magnesium is critical for immune function and flooding your body with it transdermally during those first days gives your system real support right when it needs it most.
The first three days of my cycle. The cramping, the mood shifts, the heavy anxious feeling. Magnesium helps relax the muscles that cause cramping and calms the nervous system dysregulation so many of us feel during those first days.
Any day my nervous system just needs a reset. We all have those days. Ten minutes on the salt before a shower is enough to completely shift my state. And this is safe to do daily too, especially if your body has been low in magnesium for a while.
If you want to make this reset complete, grab our Calm Vibes Magnesium + Arnica Body Butter and make it the last step of your Sunday night every single week.
