Hair Training 101: Wash less & Stay Fresh

Hair Training 101: Wash less & Stay Fresh

When it comes to hair care, I’ve recently embraced a concept that has transformed my entire routine: hair training. If you’ve ever struggled with greasy hair, limp locks, or the frustration of the time it takes for daily washing & fixing hair, this might just be the solution you need. Let’s explore what hair training is, why it’s beneficial, and how to incorporate it into your routine with some easy changes, saving you time daily from washing and fixing your hair.

 What Exactly is Hair Training?

It is the practice of gradually reducing the frequency of hair washing. The goal? To allow your scalp to adjust and find a balance in its natural oil production. I know what you might be thinking: “How can I go without washing my hair every day?” I was skeptical too! Like many, I believed daily washing my hair was essential to keep my hair looking clean and fresh. However, this constant shampooing can strip away natural oils, leading to more grease in the long run.

 My Hair Washing Journey

When I used to wash my hair daily, it would start to look greasy by the end of the day, especially after workouts. My hair stylist suggested I cut back on washing, and I thought she was crazy! How could I possibly survive without my daily shampoo routine? My hair would look limp and flat, and by the end of the day, it felt lifeless.

Despite my doubts, I decided to give hair training a try. The first week was challenging; I felt like my hair was dirty and greasy. But I stuck to it and started to see some big shifts in my hair.

 The Transformation

After a week of not washing my hair daily, I started to see real results. My hair began to look healthier and shinier. It felt more manageable, and I noticed I didn’t need to wash it as often. Instead of feeling greasy and flat by the end of the day, my hair maintained its natural volume and bounce. It was a game changer!

The Benefits of Hair Training

1. Healthier Hair: By reducing the frequency of washing, you allow your scalp to balance its natural oil production, leading to healthier, shinier hair.

2. Less Time-Consuming: With fewer wash days, you’ll save time on your hair care routine, especially helpful for busy schedules!

3. Better Product Absorption: When you wash your hair less frequently, it can better absorb the nourishing ingredients from your hair care products.

4. Less Damage: Frequent washing, especially with harsh shampoos, can damage your hair. Hair training can help minimize this risk.

How to Get Started with Hair Training

If you’re started to see the benefits of hair training, here’s how to begin your hair on the new routine:

1. Gradually Decrease Wash Frequency: Start by reducing the number of times you wash your hair each week. If you wash it daily, try washing it every other day for a week, then every three days the following week. Your scalp will gradually adjust. When washing hair use a shampoo that is sulfate-free to reduce further damage to the scalp & hair.

2. Use Natural Dry Shampoo:On days you skip washing, a good dry shampoo can be a lifesaver. I use our Dry Shampoo for Brown Hair. Unlike aerosol dry shampoos that contain harmful chemicals and propellants, our dry shampoo is formulated with natural ingredients that absorb excess oil without irritating your scalp or compromising your health. Aerosol products contain toxic fumes that are harmful to breathe in, making them not just bad for your hair but also for your overall well-being.

3. Incorporate Nourishing Products: Use products that support scalp & hair growth. I personally love the Mermaid Spray from No Poo Products, its infused with all-natural ingredients like organic aloe vera, sea kelp, sea salt & rosemary. It soothes the scalp and promotes hair growth, making it a perfect addition to your routine.

4. Accessorize for Style: On days when your hair needs a little help, I recommend adding the most comfortable headband you'll ever wear from Maddie & Me. Not only does it keep your hair stylishly in place, but it also provides a cute look while you’re in between washes.

5. Last but not least- Be Patient: Remember, it takes time for your scalp to adjust. Stick with it, and you’ll likely be amazed at how your hair transforms.

 A Final Thought

By committing to hair training and choosing high-quality, organic hair products, you can simplify your routine and enjoy healthier, shinier hair. It may feel like a leap of faith at first, but trust me—embracing hair training is worth the effort. Your hair, and your schedule, will thank you!
